Hey there, I’m Andrew.

I've been working in various creative capacities in small to mid-sized ad agencies and design firms, mostly—but not entirely—in and around southern Ontario, Canada, since the late ‘80s. I started as a junior paste-up artist in the pre-computer era, and have worked my way up and down various ladders from marker renderer to art director to associate creative director. I’ve spent a number of years freelancing, both in-house and from my own office, and along with 2 partners owned a small, full-service agency. I’ve gathered a few awards along the way and I think I’m the only person I know who’s been nominated for a Juno (album cover design, Molotov Cocktail Incorporated, Cheron’s Boat). I've done two stints teaching design at Niagara College, and was involved in the Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario mentoring program.

Aside from my life as a designer, I'm interested in architecture, mid-century furniture and design, travel, and fascinated with most things automotive, mechanical and old. There are a few too many vintage cars in my garage. I owned a restaurant for a few years. I'm a reasonably decent photographer, a lousy guitar player, I dabble in writing and painting, and I do a bit of welding and fabrication. Lately I’ve been trying my hand at woodworking. When I run into something I don’t know how to do I figure it out, and while I was not a great student, I have an ongoing passion for learning and curiosity about… everything. I just find the world to be a very interesting place.

I suppose now I can also add published author to the resumé, and although that sounds fairly impressive I’m not sure I’m really fooling anyone. I wrote, illustrated and published a book of hot rod terminology that is now preserved in the Library and Archive of Canada, and is in no danger of ever finding its way onto the NYT bestseller list.

I have experience, opinions and a fairly broad portfolio. I prefer jeans and a casual attitude, but I treat the work (and the people around me) with respect. I am a very hands-on designer, I tend to roll up my sleeves and get the work done, and I am always interested in working with like-minded people that I can respect and learn from. If the feeling is mutual we will get along just fine.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
